As part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, SSI Schaefer Philippines took part in Walk the Watershed, an activity organized by the Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines and held last October 11.
The event was held at the Casili Elementary School, located within the Marikina Watershed, a protected area recognized as a critical defense against flooding in Metro Manila. Students from the school have to travel at least two hours -- and cross many rivers -- just to get to class.
SSI Schaefer employees helped in distributing slippers, rain coats and school supplies to the students. Despite the long walk to and from the school, the participants had a fun time seeing the forests of the Marikina Watershed, and also helping children who continue schooling despite the obstacles.
