In Belgium Lantmännen Unibake counts 360 employees and 3 bakeries: in Brussels (production of frozen bread specialties such as sandwiches, ciabattas and rustic breads), in Londerzeel (production of baguettes, French baguettes and piccolos) and in Moeskroen (production of viennoisery). On the site of Londerzeel, also the logistical center of Lantmännen Unibake for Belgium and the neighbouring countries, SSI Schäfer realizes a deep freeze high-bay warehouse for the storage of bakery products at -20°C. This high-bay warehouse provides 28.500 locations for pallets, double deep storage with 9 storage and retrieval machines. The pallet conveying system of SSI Schäfer is directly connected to the production plant. Unique is the shipment, with deliveries “Just-in-time” and “Just-in-sequence”. Furthermore the high-bay warehouse is connected with the picking area by conveyors and lifts. The source pallets are automatically placed in the picking area and the picked pallets are automatically stored in the high-bay warehouse.Lantmännen Unibake decided to rent the building for 20 years from WDP, since 1971 owner, developer and manager of semi-industrial and logistical property and also market leader in warehouse rental in the Benelux. The building concept is in the hands of WDP, the automation and conveyor technics are realized by SSI Schäfer.SSI Schäfer, worldwide expert of warehouse equipment and complete automated warehouse solutions, starts end of July 2014 to build the high-bay warehouse. The commissioning is in May 2015. “With this deep-freeze high-bay warehouse we are able to store in a more compact way, we use less energy and we centralize our shipments”, says Patricia Liekens, Supply Chain Manager at Lantmännen.
